McDonalds Franchises - The Franchise in Ireland

At McDonalds Ireland, we know that the people who run our restaurants play a major role in our success. About two thirds of our restaurants in Ireland are owned and operated by franchisees.
We are an equal opportunities franchiser and we evaluate your potential as a franchisee on the basis of your business experience, financial qualifications and proven track record.

  • You own the business. You get the opportunity to own your own business and earn the rewards through hard work and dedication.
  • Business Support. Our success is intrinsically linked to yours, so we make a commitment that lasts from initial training right through the 20 year life of each franchise agreement. You will be assigned a franchise consultant, who will be on hand with advice and practical help.
  • Personal Satisfaction. Experience has shown that franchisees derive great satisfaction from working with other people, including restaurant employees, customers and the wider local community.
  • Contribution. We recognise the huge contribution franchisees can make. Some of our best-known products including the Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish and Bacon & Egg McMuffin were originally thought of by franchisees around the world.

Growth and experience. The personal growth and business knowledge that you will develop from our extensive training and your experience as a franchisee will be invaluable.

Depending on the capital that you have available, you can choose between two financial routes:

  • The Conventional Franchise. If you choose the Conventional Franchise route, you can either buy an existing restaurant, or open a new one. The latter option requires a greater financial commitment with 40 per cent of the total purchase price, as well as higher start-up costs as against 25 per cent in the case of the first option.
  • The Business Facilities Lease. The Business Facilities Lease is available to people who have the right potential but not enough capital. It involves using the cashflow of the restaurant to buy the franchise out within the first three years of trading.

In addition, there is a monthly rent and service fee, as well as a contribution to the annual marketing budget, all of which are based on a percentage of sales.

All our franchisees must complete a training programme. It takes about twelve months full time, or longer if you do it part time. You will have to fund yourself for the duration.

The programme covers all relevant areas including team building, customer relations, people skills, business management, health and safety, hygiene and general first aid. Training is split between restaurant experience and residential courses at our Training Centre.
