The Cork franchising company, Munster Tool Co, had two reasons to celebrate in June when seventh franchisee, Declan McKenna, launched his new business opportunity in Galway and agreement was reached with Chris Mulcahy to become Munster Tool Co franchisee for Waterford/South Tipperary later this summer. Founded in 1980 by Martin McMahon and Donal Healy, the company imports and distributes high quality, specialised tools to the automotive industry across Ireland.

In 2004 they embarked on a project to create a sustainable network of franchise business opportunities to serve customers nationwide under the advice and guidance of Eamon Curtin of HJM franchise Business Development. Martin McMahon explains: For over 25 years we have built strong relationships with the top automotive tool manufacturers worldwide and we have established a reputation for supplying high quality products and support to our customers. However, we struggled to reach all areas of the Irish market. Franchising our sales and distribution activity means that our customers continue to get the high quality products and support that they deserve with a level of service that can only be provided by a local, owner-managed business.

It allows us to concentrate on sourcing the best products available on the worldwide market. Meanwhile franchisees enjoy the benefits of working for themselves but with the benefit of an established brand and the extensive support of an established Irish business franchise. A member of the Irish Franchise Association, Munster Tool Co plans to develop the franchise network to support up to 20 owner-managed businesses by 2009.
